The Pomodoro Technique: Why it works & How to do it
Lots of people don’t have the motivation to engage in productive work. Whether it’s a project report or homework, we procrastinate till the last moment and finally end up abandoning the work altogether. We have all been in this situation time after time. What if there is a permanent fix to that? What if we could avoid procrastination and be the productive person we always wanted to be?
WHAT IS POMODORO TECHNIQUE?
It’s a simple time management technique which takes our fixation away from a Product Oriented Mindset to a Process Oriented Mindset. Here is how it works: You take a timer and set it to 20 or 25 minutes and once it starts ticking you engage with your work. Within this time period, you are not supposed to engage with any distractions.
Once the timer rings, you may reward yourselves with 10 minutes of free time where you can take rest or talk to your family etc. Using of mobile phone is not recommended since you would get lost in it for hours. As soon as your rest period is over, you repeat the same steps: set the timer, engage with your work avoiding all distractions, and enjoy 10 minutes of rest.
WHY IT WORKS
By following the Pomodoro technique, you are not worried about your final goal. Your priority is to focus on your work for 20 or 25 minutes. You don’t have to be worried about the end product. Once you have attended enough Pomodoro sessions, your work will get automatically completed. It’s like the fact that the score takes care of winning the game.
